■ 科目のねらい
This course is a basic introduction to the teaching of English to elementary school children. Through role-playing and practice classes students will gain confidence in basic English education.（DPに対応する中項目：③⑧）

■ 授業の概要
The course will be practical with many presentations and thesharing of ideas on how to make English learning
enjoyableand worthwhile.

■ 達成目標・到達目標
Students will be able to converse inbasic English conversation.
Students will learn easy， useful phrases for elementary school classrooms.
Students will learn phonics and how to read English correctly.
Students will learn how to present English class activities to children.

■ 単位認定の要件
Passing grades will be given to students who attend at least 2/3 of classes， complete the
assignments (children’s songs 10%， children’s books 10%) and successfully give storytelling (15%)， drama (15%) and teaching presentations (40% plus report 10%).

■ 単位の認定方法及び割合
期末レポート：10％　授業内提出物：20％　授業内試験：40％　授業内活動：30％

Vowels and consonants

Translation practice using various scenarios

Translating children’s songs into English

第6回 Translation 3

Translating Japanese stories for children into English

第7回 Presentation 1

Presentation of translated children’s stories to the class

第8回 What is communication?

A class activity designed to increase communicative ability

第9回 Drama 1

In groups， preparing a simple English drama.

第10回 Drama 2 (presentation 2)

Presenting drama productions to the class

第11回 Final Presentation explanation

Explanation of final group presentation and preparation 1

第12回 Presentation preparation 2

Deciding order of presentations and preparation 2

第13回 Presentation I

Groups of 2 or 3 will play the role of teachers and give a short presentation of an ’英語遊び’ activity. Accompanied with report.

第15回 Presentation III and review

As above plus final review of the course.

■ 時間外学修
Students must review and evaluate previous classes (30-60 mins) and prepare for short comprehension tests (3
0 mins). Also rehearsal time for presentations (3-5 hours).

Reports will be discussed with the teacher and presentations will be self and group evaluated.

■ 使用テキスト・教材
All necessary materials will be handed out in class. Students should bring a file to keep handouts.
